I wish I knew what to say. I wish I could look back on the 6 years that've passed since joining deviantART and tell and inspiring and heartstring-tugging tale of personal growth and achievements like many of the artists I watch.
But the truth is my Story just doesn't have that.
I can't remember how I came across deviantART. I'm not that much of an artist (as is evident in both my skill [or lack thereof] and frequency of submitting anything) so I can't say I sought out a platform on which to develop my passion. It just happened and before I knew it, here I was, faving works of art and before I even knew it, 6 years have passed.
Personally to me deviantART is like a light bulb is to a moth. It hurts like hell to visit sometimes, but its just too pretty to stay away. I really enjoy trolling this place every day, but sometimes seeing how much people improved and just how good some people are bums me out. I'm not very talented to begin with, and I never really practice drawing that much because I get depressed easily when I see what little I accomplish, but somehow I sometimes get to finish something, post it and actually get a fav or two.
And it doesn't feel too bad.
My lack of talent aside, I really love this place. I've come to love just looking at art by browsing everyday, and I think that made my life a little better. Strange as it may sound.
My very first favourite deviation should come as no surprise to those who know me.
I've been a Sonic the Hedgehog fan since I was 7 years old and seeing this 6 years ago was just too awesome for me.
My taste is wider than a running blue hedgehog though.
Although mostly rooted in Japanese and gaming oriented works, I've come to love a wide spectrum of styles and ideas.
From the medievil horror that is Berserk:
To real life photography:
From the insanely cool animations by Mikeinel
To the quirky misadventures of Luigi:
Some are sad:
And some are funny:
But all are, in some form or another, art and has changed my life in one way or another.
So here's to deviantART. To 14 years well spent. To 14 more years to come. And to all the trolls like us who somehow make it all happen.
Thank you and good night.
